Livelihood Program 2007
1. Baseco, Manila
LGDFI initiated a livelihood program for stay-at-home mothers in Baseco, Manila. A skills training was conducted in cooperation with Kingdom Builders Cooperative (KB Coop.). KB Coop. provided raw materials for making home-care products such as dishwashing liquid, fabric conditioner, and liquid and powder detergent. The trainees and beneficiaries were the mothers of the children who were under LGDFI’s child feeding program. The skills they learned from the training proved to be helpful as their small businesses endure up to now and has been a source of income for their families.
2. Bulacan (March 2007 up to present)
CIBAC Party-List donated P500,000 to LGDFI for the implementation of livelihood programs in the following municipalities of Bulacan: Bocaue, Malolos, Meycauyan, San Jose Del Monte, Marilao, Balagtas, Guiguinto and Calumpit. The fund was released through DOLE Region III. Food carts were distributed to duly nominated unemployed residents. The mobile food carts were equipped with a complete set of utensils that can start a “squid ball-kikiam-fish ball business.” Before awarding the carts, an entrepreneurship training program was conducted to educate and motivate the new entrepreneurs.
3. Doña Remedios Trinidad – Pottery and Ceramics Making
The municipality of Doña Remedios Trinidad names its ceramics and pottery making as one of DRT’s flagship project relative to the “One Town One Product” (OTOP) program in Barangay Sapang Bulak. Clay and ceramic deposits abound in the area. In light of this, the residents of DRT embark on pottery production as an income-generating project that provides livelihood and employment opportunities to the out-of-school youths in Sapang Bulak.
In order to facilitate and increase the volume of production, the project needed various tools and machines such as roll crushers/kneaders and manual jiggering machines. These would be of great help to generate and increase the sales and income of the beneficiaries. In cooperation with DOLE Region III, LGDFI awarded P50,000 to the municipality for the purchase of tools and machines.
